Fresh news on business and economy in Finland
Provided by AGP"The Ministry for Foreign Affairs today, in a meeting with the Israeli ambassador, reiterated its demands for respectful treatment of the participants in the Global Sumud Flotilla, the assurance of due process and safety, and the observance of international law," the Ministry said in a post on X, the US social media platform.
The Ministry further noted that Israel is moving to expel the detained individuals from its territory, and confirmed it remains in active contact with both the activists and Israeli authorities.
The diplomatic intervention follows a wave of international outrage sparked by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who on Wednesday posted a video on social media showing himself mocking pro-Palestinian detainees who had been zip-tied and forced to kneel after being seized by Israeli forces in international waters. The minute-long clip triggered condemnation at home and abroad.
Israeli forces intercepted the aid convoy on Monday, apprehending all activists aboard after stopping the vessel in international waters.
The Global Sumud Flotilla set sail last Thursday from the Turkish district of Marmaris carrying 428 passengers from 44 countries, on a mission to breach the Israeli naval blockade that has been imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007.
